Every project starts by understanding what you want to achieve, the property you're working with and the opportunities available.

Architectural Design for Homes in Chester

There isn't a standard solution to designing or improving a home.

You might need more space for a growing family, want to rethink an awkward existing layout or be starting from scratch with a new property. Our role is to look at what’s possible and shape your ideas into a design that makes the best use of the property, the site and its surroundings.

Depending on the project, we can help with everything from the initial concept through to the detailed information needed to move towards construction. This can include:

  • Early feasibility and design ideas
  • Extensions, renovations and remodelling
  • Self-build and new-build homes
  • Planning applications
  • Building Regulations
  • Technical and construction drawings
  • 3D visualisations

You may need support throughout the whole process or just at a particular stage. We can tailor our involvement around where you are with the project and what you need next.

Project Spotlight: James Gowen House, Handbridge

Our work at James Gowen House in Handbridge, Chester demonstrates how a design can respond to an unusual existing property rather than simply adding something new.

The house is one of two residences originally designed by architect James Gowan. Our client's brief included creating additional first-floor bedrooms and altering the ground-floor layout to make better use of the property's views.

Our proposals explored using the vacant roof space above the garage for new bedrooms and en-suites, together with a carefully considered side extension for a media room.

The challenge was to create the additional space the client needed while respecting the architectural character of the original house – an approach that is central to how we work on extensions and renovations.

Planning an Extension or Renovation in Chester

There are plenty of reasons for extending or renovating a property. You may need another bedroom, a larger kitchen or simply want to make better use of rooms that aren’t working particularly well at the moment.

We can look at the existing property, talk through what you want to change and put together a design that makes sense for the house.

We’ll also consider planning from the outset. Some extensions can be completed under permitted development, while others will need a planning application, depending on the property and what you’re proposing.

We can help establish the right approach as part of the design process.

We can help you understand what’s likely to be possible and develop the design with these requirements in mind.

Chester's historic environment also means conservation areas, listed buildings and the character of surrounding properties can be important considerations.

We can help establish the likely requirements early in the process and develop the design accordingly.
